| Abstract | Developments in human genetic technology, including predictive genetic testing, have great potential for improving health and for Australia's financial advancement, but it is feared to give rise to genetic discrimination, that is the differential treatment of individuals, based on actual or presumed genetic differences, resulting in their exclusion from insurance or employment. A report from an enquiry established by the Health Ethics Committee and Australian Law Reform Commission acknowledges these concerns and suggests legislative changes to afford greater protection to genetic information and genetic samples of individuals. |
