| Abstract | Ever since the importance of planning a sustainable tourism was recognized, there has been a search of adequate tools to monitor it in the touristic destinations. That is one of the main challenges of the present scientific academy of tourism studies. The challenge is still bigger if faced with that context and also when the tourism is dealt within conservation units as it involves a highly sensitive environment and communities of surrounding areas who may depend on the development of that activity to earn their living. Therefore, it is proposed in this study to analyze the applicability and the methodological efficiency of the monitoring, aiming to help in the tourism sustainability in conservation units, through a case study in the Parque Estadual do Jalapão, located in the state of Tocantins, Brazil. The investigation of the local indicators approached from the World Tourism Organization definition is considered as priority in this research. The attained results demonstrated that the studied indicators are tools that must be considered in the tourism evaluation and quantification process in a destiny with similar environmental characteristics, what makes it possible the comprehension and the strengthening of the sustainability notion. This study is characterized by its interdisciplinary dimension, with the deductive method as a guide. KEYWORDS— Indicators, Tourism, Sustainability and Jalapão. |
