| Abstract | Daily AVHRR sea surface temperature (SST) images from July 1997 to December 2000, for the Bay of La Paz Baja California Sur, Mexico, were analized. The images were organized in chronological order. A tridimensional matrix was obtained, with 80 x 80 spatial grid cells of 1.2 km2 and time in the Z axis, with 1328 images. The maximum temperatures occurred from July to September and the minimum from January to March. Interannual temperature variation shows that 1997 was the warmer year in the studied period . And coincided with the anomaly occurred in August 1997 during the «El Nino» event. The results showed that daily fluctuations, matutine and vespertine presented seasonal differences during the year. Temperature differences during cold months were 1oC while warm months were up to 2o C. SST cooling down rate from October to December was 2oC per month. The calibration, accuracy and coastal oceanography potential application of temperature remote sensing data are be discussed by comparison of AVHRR sensor versus in situ recorded data. |
