| Abstract | This case study is part of a comparative study on the experience of eight African countries, to understand the institutional, political and organizational factors that led governments to engage in the field of nutrition in a long term perspective. The concept of the fight against malnutrition is generally based on: (i) prevention with monitoring growth, education in nutrition, mobilizing people to change behavior, the integration of essential nutrition to the basic approaches, (ii) integration of the fight against micronutrients deficiencies in the activities, (iii) the management of common childhood diseases, which can be supported by food security in communities and households. These strategies can be supported by nutritional activities in schools with de-worming and micronutrient supplementation as well as education on hygiene and nutrition. From a historical perspective, this document reproduces the trajectory of the nutrition in Madagascar during the three republics that the country has experienced (1960 - 2010). To address malnutrition remains for the Big Island a serious public health problem. |
