| Abstract | Domestic violence represents a serious social problem in various countries, not only because of the high incidence of it in all social-cultural strata of the populations but also for the grave consequences for its victims. On the theoretical approach of this research, we carried out a bibliographical survey of conjugal violence and examined its historical frame, types of violence, possible predisposing factors towards victimization, the impact of this violence on the victim and the permanency factors in the relationship of abuse. On the second part of this work, our main specific goal was to evaluate the impact of domestic violence. To support our investigation we took into account the situation of 60 women victims of conjugal violence for which purpose we used four instruments: a semi-structured questionnaire and three specific scales, being one of them a psychopathological questionnaire, a scale of beliefs and a questionnaire of emotional response to domestic violence. The results found confirm that psychological violence prevails though sometimes associated with other types of violence like physical and sexual ones. Women who are victims of conjugal ill treatment present a high psychopathological symptoms. With regard to the personality of the victim there are changes, including a higher prevalence of signs of tension, mistrust, dependence, concerns and awareness. There is still a cognitive and emotional stability decline. As to the beliefs associated with violence we can say that the results are similar to the ones found in populations of non-abusive individuals. |
