| Abstract | Teaching the scientific theory of evolution can come up against religious convictions and creates some controversy. In French primary schools, this teaching is prescribed by official programs but less present in the classrooms. First we study here official prescriptions and expectations of the institution. Then, we conduct a survey on primary school teachers (from grades 3 to 5 in the French primary school system) through a written questionnaire which revealed their own relationships with knowledge concerning the notion of evolution, outside and inside school, and its possible influence on their choice to teach the theory of evolution or not and how to teach it. |
