| Abstract | There is still a good deal of debate about the exact process of therapeutic change in cognitive therapy. The search for the definitive mediator has not yet provided any coherent answers. This investigation examines the possibility that cognitive therapy affects the way we retrieve negative memories, leading to more effortful processing and reappraisal of material that does not help emotional wellbeing. It is argued that this could be a key element of the change process. |
