| Abstract | As it becomes more and more common with on-chip microprocessors in both ASIC and FPGA designs, the importance of selecting the appropriate processor core for the design increases. When choosing a microprocessor core for the design there are several different parameters that can be used to decide what core should be used. There are area restrictions and there should be enough connectivity in terms of bus connections for the target application. This document focuses on performance metrics as a selection criterion. Performance can be measured in a number of ways ranging from simple metrics such as clock rate to sophisticated benchmark test suites. In this document the word measure is used in meaning of generating a comparable number rating a microprocessors performance. |
