| Abstract | MSMEs are key players for Colombian economy, because they represent a large part of the business network and contributes to the generation of employment, incomes and assets for the population. Nevertheless, these companies are exposed to a number of barriers that affect their growth and their stay on the market; these barriers are influenced by the resource management and the financial policies that the company use. For this reason, the need arises to analyze the effects of capital structure on the financials ratios of Bogotá MSMEs, according to productive sector, due to the generation of early warnings, which reduce risk of bankruptcy of these companies’ segment. In order to carry out the investigation, it was used a quantitative methodology using the data panel model method and using databases of SIREM and PIE, to obtain the information of MSMEs that report their financial statements to the Superintendencia de Sociedades of Colombia and are part of the manufacture, financial, trade and construction sectors. Once the models were estimated, it is possible to demonstrate that the capital structure does not affect itself the financials ratios, however, it is evident that exist some positive and negative effects between these variables; likewise, it is identified that, in some cases, these effects are bidirectional. Additionally, we were able to find behaviors expected by the theories of Modigliani and Miller, Trade-off and Pecking order. |
