Abstract	This study aimed to define the permanent preservat ion areas (APP) within the margins of water bodies, considering the land use o ccupation and current environmental legislation from Uberaba river watershed MG, base d on digital images obtained via satellite from CBERS 2, through automatic delimitation of per manent preservation areas followed by identification the land use conflict based on Brazi li n Forest Code (Law n. 4771/1965) and National Council of Environment’s Resolution n. 303 /02. This paper analyzes and tracks, through quantitative parameters and use of Geograph ic Information System, the maintenance of width recommended by the legislation for permane nt preservation areas over the water bodies. The results show a deficit of conserved ar as at the margin of rivers of 13.774 ha that are not in compliance with the legislation. The pas ture occupies unduly 3,8% of the basin in the permanent preservation areas at the shore of rivers, while agriculture occupies 1,9%.
