| Abstract | Temporal patterns of changing landscapes will only be revealed through the description of the factors that influencing the dynamics. Faced with the need to determine these processes, this study aimed to carry out the environmental characterization of the Brazilian city of Americana-SP, as well as analyze the dynamics of use and occupation of land in 1984, 1991, 1997, 2008 and 2014. The focus of the methodological procedure was the environmental characterization of the municipality and the use of dynamic uses in landscape assessment using Landsat images, referring to the study area. Use most notably over the years was urban, an increase of 16.88% throughout the study period. In contrast, this growth has generated impacts on natural ecosystems, with loss of areas and decrease their connectivity.
