| Abstract | The challenge of the evaluation of education systems After the transfer of the educational administration, some Autonomous Governments have created their own evaluation bodies. The Basque Institute of Evaluation and Educational Research (ISEI-IVEI) focuses its attention in the procurement of reliable and comparable data, further away of the State measures, for the construction of indicators that can be used to promote the improvement of the Basque Education System. They believe in an international assessment, and particularly in PISA, as one of the guidance sources of education policies. The Basque country extended its sample in PISA 2003, and does it, as well, in the current PISA 2006. The results obtained by the Basque pupils in PISA 2003 are analysed. It is considered, as well, the risk of superfluous evaluations, and the need of thinking about more comprehensive answers for educational improvement, as accountability systems are. |
