| Abstract | Irrigation has to be optimised because of its impact on yield and solute leaching to groundwater. The first objective of this project was thus to compare four methods of estimating water flux: a lysimeter pan (reference method), a flux based on daily evapotranspirative demand, a water balance computed from changes in water storage and évapotranspiration demand and finally, an estimation based on Darcy's law. The second objective was to evaluate the impact of irrigation on lettuce yield and on nitrate, phosphate and bromide leaching in organic soil. Our data suggest that the estimation methods overestimate the drainage, compared to the one calculated with the lysimeter pan. Also, no effect on leaching and on yield was observed from irrigation treatments, and solute losses toward groundwater were small. |
