| Abstract | Boarding school is an educational institution of Islam that has existed since the early days of the Indonesia. Pesantren (Islamic boarding School) is a place where Islamic knowledge and indigenous Indonesian culture combined and overspread, but their existence is currently widely blamed as the source of terrorism, particularly after the World Trade Center NewYork was attacked in 2011. The Islamic Boarding existence can not be separated from the figure of a Kyai (Cleric) as a sources transmitter of knowledge, especially Islamic, as the elder and leaders of community. Kyai position in the Islamic boarding school at this time can not be separated from his communications made to the students, which with all its limitations, Kyai should be able to remain as the boarding protector and students. The purpose of this study was to formulate, understand and, analyze models of Kyai communication with students, especially in the context of the Boarding Schools' Ribathi "Miftahul Ulum. This study was expected to be a study that enriches thought and communication of data on the east culture perspective. This study was expected to be a part of Islam that contextualization is considered minimal relevance in today's life. This study used a qualitative methodology with a phenomenological method, which is supported by the observation partisipatory data collection techniques. The results of this study is construction model of the Kyai (cleric) – santri (students) communication at boarding school Ribathi Miftahul Ulum formed from senior Ustadz (teacher) Kyai interactions, and Ustadz-santri interactions, where Ustadz served as the party which has capability to create interaction and communication between Kyai and santri. Communication Model Kyai and students at Islamic boarding school Ribathi Miftahul Ulum influenced by the concept of morality, Kyai’s charisma and Kyai’s status. Kyai moral education is a way to establish communication in the context of the lodge, which will also facilitate the transfer of knowledge in the management of boarding activities. Whereas, Kyai status and charisma works as enhancing factor of communicator legitimacy in the context of the Islamic boarding school. Based of study in Ribathi Miftahul Ulum Islamic Boarding School, Dampit Malang about Communication Model Kyai and santri, it can be concluded that the communication model formed from the interaction of high intensity between Ustadz and Kyai, also Ustadz with Santri, where Ustadz have roles as a messenger and interpreter from Kyai to the students either in the form of verbal and nonverbal. |
