| Abstract | Our study aims to phenotypic and genotypic characterization of mechanisms of resistance of Acinetobacter baumannii strains to antibiotics. Resistance phenotypes were determined on the basis of the results tested for sensitivity to antibiotics and inhibitors (clavulanic acid, Cloxacillin, and EDTA), the resistance genes were determined by PCR. In our study, 48 strains of A. baumannii were isolated at the EHU Oran are résistant to blactams, among them 35 were resistant to imipenem. Concerning other families of antibiotic, 44 strains were resisted to ciprofloxacin, ceftazidime 43 to 25 strains for tobramycin, and 2 strains to rifampicin. All strains were sensitive to colistin. Resistance genes were detected: the OXA-23 was positive for 21 strains, OXA-24 positive for 6 strains, 2 strains with both genes blaOXA-23 and blaOXA-23 and finally 3 strains possessing the gene NDM-1 The emergence of multidrug-resistant strains of Acinetobacter baumannii is a serious therapeutic problem, hence the need for the strict application of the rules of hygiene and rational use of antibiotics.
