| Abstract | In view of the teaching featuring practicality, utilitarianism and absence of critical thinking of the English major in current colleges and universities, this paper summarizes the research results of the predecessors and the core literacy of critical thinking through literature review. Besides, based on the teaching practice of private colleges and universities, this paper constructs a teaching mode of Advanced English focusing on the cultivation of students' critical thinking, that is, complete teaching steps, elaborate teaching design and multidimensional assessment methods, so as to improve students' comprehensive quality and employment competitiveness.
