| Abstract | Starvation tolerance of the juvenile swimming crab, Poytunus tyituberculatus, was investigated. At water temperatures of 15 to 25•Ž the survival period (C1) decreased with rearing temperature rising. At water temperatures of 23-24•Ž the median survival period of crabs (from C1 to C3) was from 9 to 19 days and the starvation tolerance increased with the size of crabs. The point of no return (PNR) for C1 was estimated 8.3 days at 25•Ž. The rapid decrease in the number of released artificial seed of the swimming crab in intertidal areas doesn't seem to be caused by starvation. |
