Abstract	This study aimed to identify factors associated with waist circumference in elderly participants from community groups. It is an analytical type of research with cross-sectional design and quantitative approach. The study site was the center of coexistence of the elderlyin the municipality of Vitoria da Conquista/BA with a sample of 110 elderly. The instrument was composed of the sociodemographic variables, health and anthropometric measurements (body mass index and increased abdominal circumference). Data were analyzed using frequency distribution and application of chi-square test (χ2), by using the statistical program SPSS version 20.0. It was found statistical difference between Increased Abdominal Circumference and the study variables: arterial hypertension (p=0.04), Alcoholism (p=0.00), presence of disease (p=0.01) and female sex (p=0.00). The investigated elderly have body fat levels that reflect risks to health, being necessary to carry out preventive measures against obesity.
