Dissonant rhyme, including non-rhyming words, has always had got a place in traditional Spanish metrical theory, whether in terms of a special list like that provided by Rengifo, or within nineteenth-century rhyming dictionaries (Penalver, Landa and Benot). Today two-way dictionaries inform about the possibility or the impossibility of rhyme. The detailed study of Rengifo’s list forms the basis of the description and theory of dissonance, a third form of rhyme, or non-rhyme, together with consonancia and asonancia as regards Spanish metrics. |
