| Abstract | The objective of the experiment was evaluate the response of Mombaca grass ( Panicum maximun Jacq.) to three rates of nitrogen fertilizer (N) and two cutting frequencies. Forage yield (FY), density and the average weight of tillers and the mean stage count (MSC) were used as response variables. Nitrogen levels linearly affected DMY and MSC. The number of tillers increased up to 406kg ha-1. The MSC increased with the nitrogen fertilizer due to shoot elongation and development of reproductive tillers. For the 28-day interval, vegetative tillers had the greatest influence on DMY, while for the 42-day, the number of vegetative tillers decreased. |
