| Abstract | The experiment was carried out from January to April 2004. Five animals fed with ruminal cannula were randomly allocated in 5x5 square, to evaluate ingestive behavior and physiologic parameters. Animals were fed with forage cactus ( Opuntia ficus-indica , Mill) - based diets with 5; 15; 25; 35; and 45% tifton hay ( Cynodon dactylon ,(L.) Pers). There was a quadratic relationship between dry matter (kg/day and % live weight (LW)) and neutral detergent fiber (% LW) intake and tifton hay inclusion. Idleness time reduced whereas rumination, eating and chewing time increased linearly ( P 0.05) defecation, urination, water search and lying down position |
