| Abstract | This paper discusses the psycho-therapeutic features in Oriki , the panegyric genre that focuses on changing people’s current way of life. It employs range of techniques based on relationship building, dialogue, communication, and behaviour changed that are designed to improve the mental among the users. We discuss its ability to increase sense of well-being as well as reduce discomfort of the addressees. In our analysis, we employed the socio-mythical approach, borne out of sociological and mythological approaches that made it possible for us to perceive cultural ideologies on which the attitude of the Yoruba is based. |
