| Abstract | The aim of this paper is to determinate the cultural development potential (CDP) of the 66 microregions of the state of Minas Gerais and using Exploratory Spatial Data Analysis (ESDA) detect spatial patterns of the cultural potential in the state. To determinate the CDP we used the statistical method of factorial analysis using the cultural annex of the Basic Municipal Information Research developed by IBGE. The work is divided in 5 parts with the introduction. In the second it is made a literature revision about the called “cultural economics”. In the third, it is presented the data and both the methodologies used. In the forth the results found are discussed highlighting the formation of three factors that explain the cultural development potential and the formation of cultural clusters in the state, from the analysis of the index only, and considering the GDP.
