| Abstract | for the members of the PELS SBC. The seminar offered a talk by Prof. Ricardo Nederson do Prado from the Federal University of Santa Maria, Brazil. His lecture, “Introduction to Research in the Federal University of Santa Maria,” was a very interesting one in which he gave a short introduction on both the Federal University of Santa Maria and the technology center (Figure 1). Prof. Nederson also provided information about the number of undergraduate versus postgraduate programs. These data have changed for the last few years because the university is aiming to increase its postgraduate programs. In an introduction to the postgraduation program, Prof. Nederson discussed how many fields are covered by this program. Further, he explained how his group is interested in enhancing the performance of the postgraduate program, thus offering a better service to the students. Finally, he concluded by explaining his research interests and presenting his research into lighting systems at the university.
