| Abstract | This paper will briefly review recent research on learning strategies in the field of Second Language Acquisition (SLA). It will then examine the link between strategies and metacognitive knowledge in a given task, which leads to the question of instructional task design. We will focus mostly on proposals based on shared metacognition and on teaching models in which the teacher role as a mediator has a key function in the learning process. Within this framework, we will then give an account of an empirical study conducted with American adults of intermediate and advanced level studying French for Specific Purposes. |
