| Abstract | SUMMARY: A comparative study on the reproductive biology of Rana dalmatina in two close and unconnected breeding ponds of its eastern border of the Iberian distribution is made. Two different clutch ways are detected, depending on the different vegetation structure of the breeding habitat. The first egg masses in the breeding season of 1994 were seen on 14 and 10 February, and extended during 19 days and less than 4 weeks, respectively. Great differences of population derive from the 638 and 45 egg counted masses, because the general status of its habitats. There are no breeding rest periods in the first breeding pond, where the clutch size average is 718. The breeding activity begins massively and may be divided into two phases. Very active the former and extended the first half of the cycle, gives the 88.2% of the egg masses. The second one suddenly falls, without any interruption. |
