| Abstract | This paper describes the process of creating, social, productive, organizational and managerial functions of agricultural cooperatives in five municipalities of the southern sub-region of Lake Maracaibo (Zulia State). It is a descriptive study, with a selected by stratified random sampling with proportional allocation by municipalities shows. A questionnaire was administered to a sample of 51cooperatives. For processing and analysis of data, SPSS version17 was applied. The results point out that most of the associated workers in the newly stablished cooperatives were young men with lower educational levels. The main crops were banana and palm oil plantations. It was found an statistically significant relationship between the kind of production methods with the activity or inactivity of cooperatives. The main objectives of the cooperatives were marketing products and purchasing agricultural inputs. Active and individual cooperatives implemented the functions of planning, management, budgeting, monitoring and evaluation. |
