| Abstract | Staphylococcus (S.) aureus is an opportunistic pathogen with the ability to invade and persist in unprofessional phagocytes. The objective of this study was to analyse and compare the resistance and virulence patterns of isolated methicillin resistant S. aureus strains. Materials and methods. The study was realized on the 10 MRSA strains isolated mostly from wound secretions during 2014, from patients of the Emergency Institute for Cardiovascular Diseases "Prof. Dr. C.C. Iliescu", Bucharest. The presence of SCCmec resistance genes and virulence factors was investigated at molecular level, by simplex and multiplex PCR. Results and discussions. The comparative analysis of the distribution of virulence factors correlated with resistance revealed that at least one virulence and resistance genes was expressed in all samples. Conclusions. This study has provided evidence that S. aureus strains express different resistance and virulence patterns and thus modify the perception of scientists regarding the involvement of different types of cassettes in a wide array of clinical infections. |
