| Abstract | It was evaluated the characteristics of the carcass of the sheep breed Santa Inês, males and females by ultrasonography and computerized live tomography, and the correlation between both methods of analysis. It was utilized 17 lambs of the Santa Ines breed (9 males and 8 females) at the age of 5 months (5M), and 7 adult males at the age of 22 months (22M). CT analysis and Ultrasound were realized on the muscle longissimus dorsi at the region of the 12th and 13th rib bone where it was takes measurements of length, depthness and width of the subcutaneous fat. It was also realized the weighing and morphometric measuring of the animals. The statistical difference was found by UScomp, USprof and USeg respectively being 5,0±0,7cm, 2,5±0,6cm and 2,0±0,5mm for the males e 4,4±0,5 cm, 2,1±0,3cm e 1,8±0,4 for the females. For the tomographic measurement the only one that presented statistical difference in relation to gender was CTcomp, being larger in males 6,11±0,6cm compared to the females (5,4b±0,6cm). The weight and morphometric measurements were all greater in the male subjects. All variables were greater in the animals at the 22M group. The correlations obtained between the tomographic measurements and the ultrasonographic measurements were medium to high. Male lambs presented greater measurements of the longissimus dorsi muscle, also to note that older animals presented greater measurements than the younger ones. The correlation between the measuring by CT and US are medium to high, indicating that both techniques have similar application in measuring the longissimus dorsi muscle and the subcutaneous fat coat.
