Abstract	It is an integrative review with the aim of analyzing the national and international scientific productions aimed at the issue of patient safety in the hospital setting. The sample consisted of 48 abstracts of original research, literature review, systematic review and reflection, from the MEDLINE, ScienceDirect and SciELO, whose research inclusion criteria were produced in the period 2006-2012. From this analysis, two categories emerged: the culture of patient safety in hospitals, the advancement of information systems for patient safety. It was concluded that health care institutions have sought increasingly to promote the culture of patient safety in seeking to control the quality of care provided to patients.
