| Abstract | A macroscopic model of liquid-vapour phase change, based onthe difference of chemical potentials between the liquid and vapour phases contained in the pores, is propo sed. An experiment, creating a thermodynamic non-equilibrium between the liquid and its vapour is descri bed. Two different behaviours of the coefficient L, depending on the vapour pressure, are distinguished : a doma in near the equilibrium and a domain far from the equilibrium. Model proposed reveals three characteristicvalues: a phase change coefficient close to equilibrium, a criterion which characterizes the transition from the lin ear domain to the non-linear domain and a coefficient which represents the velocity with which the vapour pressur e reaches its equilibrium value. The results show that the variation of these values in relation to the soil water co ntent has a characteristic form, which seems to connect them at the same time to the water binding energy and to the liq uid-gas interface surface.
