Abstract	The soil seed bank of upland forest (terra firme) in the Central Amazon was by sampled under the following treatments: nursery with 30% and 50% shade; greenhouse and germination chamber with washed and unwashed soils. The results suggest: a) the most convenient treatment were the nursery with 30% of shadow; b) soil washing did not show significant effects, and c) the seed banks could be sampled with only tem plots of 2m x 1m x 0,02m.
