| Abstract | Being conscious of multi – and interdisciplinary character of the idea of sustainable development the author of this article limits his consideration exclusively to the ecophilosophical dimension. The thesis he would like to risk to set comes from conviction that the problem of sustainable development, in its philosophical, and especially in an ethical variant, is as much new as deeply and firmly set in the philosophical tradition. It is then a new old problem; new, because it touches upon an unprecedented , as Philippe Saint Marc described it, crisis of our civilization ; old, because the ideas it assumes and says, at least in their broad outline, have been functioning in philosophy almost since the dawn of it, anyway since the Socratic anthropocentric turning point. The author calls for acknowledging the idea of sustainable development as opening a new perspective in ecophilosophy and through it initiating a new paradigm in the philosophy in 21th century of return to the human being reconciled with nature . At bases of the principle of sustainable development lies the structural aiming at future, which is expressed, on an ethical level, out of authentic and committed concern for the future development of mankind . The ethics of sustainable development as a new ethics for the future is then, when all is said and done, according to Hans Jonas’ words, the ethics of unavoidable responsibility for the future generations. |
