| Abstract | The soil is a dynamic and live system essential to nutrient supply for crops and organic material cycling. Among the soil attributes used to indicate its quality and health and to evaluate the agricultural management the organic mater fraction, and microbial biomass are important. Agriculture, including pig production, has contributed to environmental degradation, because manure has a large pollutant potential when used improperly. The experiment was realized in Braço do Norte (Santa Catarina State, Brazil) from 2002, December to 2004, May. The objective of this work was to evaluate the carbon and nitrogen activity of the microbial biomass, some soil chemical attributes and plant productivity (grain and dry material) in an Hapludult soil (Ultisols) fertilized with swine bedding, swine manure and chemical fertilizer (urea and NPK 4-14-8). The quantities of nitrogen used were the recommended and double the recommended rates for oats and maize. The rotation used was maize-oats-maize. To determine microbial biomass carbon and nitrogen was utilized the fumigation-extraction method. Soil chemical analysis followed ROLAS-SUL methodology. The statistical analysis was performed using the SAS software (8.2 version). Univariate and multivariate canonical analysis were performed. Generally, the swine bedding treatments presented higher microbial activity, improved some soil chemicals attributes and provided good productivity. The others treatments, mainly that using the double recommendation of chemical fertilizer, showed less microbial activity and productivity and reduced the soil pH. |
