| Abstract | Studies of management systems that getting better organic-C stocks in soils has growing especially in tropical soils. The effect of vegetables tillage and grass coverage on carbon forms was studied in a Red Latosol, on mountains relief in Rio de Janeiro State. This study was conducted at the Experimental Station of Pesagro, with the following soil management: conventional tillage (PC), contour tillage (PN), minimum tillage (CM). A grass coverage (GR) and no coverage, the reference plot (SC) were analyzed. Soil samples was taken in the summer (december 1999 and march 2001), at 0-5 cm depth and total organic-C contents, humic acids, fulvic acids, and humin fractions were analyzed. The total organic-C content and humin fraction content were higher (81%) in GR and SC plot showed the minimum content. The agricultural management of soil with CM system increased the organicC content. The organic carbon content at CM was 39 and 29% higher in compared with PC, for both periods (summer 1999 and 2001). |
