| Abstract | Natural disasters and threats to human survival associated to the destruction of nature have stimulated the international community to firm agreements for the global protection of the environment. In this context, the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) was adopted to guarantee the rational use of biodiversity, which can provide food and medication, and contribute to the balance of the climate. Being a CBD signatory and holder of vast natural capital represented by the Amazon Forest, Brazil must adopt measures for the conservation of biological diversity. Indeed, Brazilian laws praise the rational exploitation of the resource in question. However, the analysis of public politics for the economic growth of the Amazon Region denotes that its development is not in accordance with the international commitments for the environment’s preservation. The activities implemented in the Forest are mainly based upon agriculture and extensive cattle-raising, which contribute to deforestation and the loss of biodiversity. The present paper, thus, analyses the adjustment of national politics to the disposals of domestic laws and the international treaty for the conservation of biodiversity, specifically focused on the Amazon Forest. |
