| Abstract | This study is devoted to the 3D numerical simulation of developing flows of viscoelastic fluids through a curved duct of square cross-section and rectangular cross-section. The Phan-Thien-Tanner (PTT) model is used to represent viscoelastic effects. The numerical method uses a finite volume discretization with a staggered grid, and the equations are written in general orthogonal coordinates. The numerical simulations are produced for Dean numbers (Dn) varying from 50 to 500, and Deborah numbers (De) varying from 0,1 to 0,5. The aspect ratios (Ar) are varying from 1 to 12. The study shows the influence of inertial effects, aspect ratio and viscoelasticity on the vortex structure and the onset of additional vortices in the main flow. |
