| Abstract | This chapter describes and encourages innovations for improving practice and research in science education through the strategic incorporation of information technology (IT) into teacher education. It shows how the Integrated Science Learning Environment (ISLE) model used IT to holistically combine a variety of approaches to bring about conceptual change through authentic inquiry. Implementing constructivist teaching and learning practices in the university setting fostered similar change in school classrooms. It describes the current context for reform and provides a closer look at how the traditions of learning environments research can provide a common language and promising methods to meet new challenges facing educators and researchers in science and education in a technology-rich world. |
