| Abstract | Objectives - Epidemiology of cardiovascular diseases (CVD) is still unknown in Togolese isolate ethnic groups. The aim of this study is to evaluate influence of environment, dietetic practices and endogamy on the prevalence of CVD risk factors in Ogo (isolate ethnic group). Patients and methods - A cross-sectional study carried out of November 2011 to September 2012 related to 360 Ogo apparently healthy subjects. They were 210 subjects alive in mountain and forest region and 150 subjects living since more than five years on Atlantic coastal region in city. A nutritional investigation was carried out, Body Mass Index and Blood Pressure were measured; glycaemia and lipids were performed by enzymatic methods. Results - Subjects of the city food are richer in animal proteins, saturated and unsaturated trans fats, NaCl, monosodium of glutamate and refined sugar. They are more sedentary and have more increase values for BMI (p < 0.0001); DBP (p<0.001); SBP (p < 0.05). For subject of city, the prevalence of preHT and stage I and II HT is respectively 1.5 and 1,56 times that of the village subjects whose atherogenicity index (CDL-C/HDL-C) is lower (2,77 vs 3,84). Conclusion - Our findings suggest that the Ogo studied are not malnourished and have not overload weight. However the values of CT, TG, CDL-C/HDL-C, glycaemia and blood pressure show that cardiovascular risk factors increase with lifestyle modifications related to the urbanization in the subjects of the city . |
