| Abstract | The present Degree Project analyses the relation between compulsory vote and the level increase of non-electoral citizen participation in Ecuador. The main objective is define if compulsory vote influences citizens to search other mechanisms of participation in public affairs. This precept has been identified in the theoretical framework and this investigation pretends to identify if this relation is present in a specific case study. In this sense, this investigation has been organized in three chapters that would allow to collect and process historical and field information in order to reach a conclusion. Firstly, there were identified the main theoretical precepts and academic debates around the relation mentioned (chapter 1). Then, the Ecuadorian case is analyzed using the theoretical references and focused on the evolution of the compulsory vote and institutionalized and non-institutionalized citizen participation.
