| Abstract | Structural and optical characterization of CdS thin films prepared by CBD CdS thin films of different thicknesses were prepared on glass and ITO substrates by CBD (chemical bath deposition) technique for photovoltaic Rev. Ivoir. Sci. Technol., 17 (2011) 17 – 35 Donafologo SORO et al. 18 applications. The investigations during the elaboration turned around the parameters temperature and deposition time. The measure of the thicknesses layers is made with a profilometer. The crystallinity was determined by X-ray diffraction, the composition and film morphology using a scanning electron microscope equipped with a system of Energy Dispersive Spectrometry (EDS).Spectrometer atomic force (AFM) was used to analyze the roughness of the films and the optical transmission spectra were studied in the spectral region from 300 nm to 900 nm. All films had developed a high transmittance (~ 60-80%). The optical gap of the films was evaluated from the transmission spectra. The energy of the optical band which is a function of deposition conditions was found in the range of 2.25 to 2.35 eV. The films were annealed at 300 °C for 2 hours, which helped to improve the crystallinity. The ideal temperature was 60 ° C, when the deposition time is a function of the desired thickness |
