| Abstract | It was made the design and modelling of a heterogeneous catalytic reactor for the production of 16,000 tonnes of biodiesel per year from sunflower oil, using calcium oxide as catalyst. The reactor is a continuous stirred tank reactor (CSTR) and operates at a pressure of 1 atm, a temperature of 55oC, molar ratio methanol:oil in the input of 6:1 mol/mol and a catalyst mass of 456 kg. The impeller used is a turbine impeller with a power of 7 kW. The reactor operates adiabatically using glass wool as the insulating. The purchase cost of the reactor is 15000 euros. A HAZOP study allows determining and acting on the most critical variables in the operation of the reactor. The Life Cycle Analysis of biodiesel ensures environmental sustainability of biodiesel production process. Reactor, modelling, heterogeneous catalysis, biodiesel, vegetable oil. |
