Abstract	Depression has been related with alterations of glucose metabolism, hypertension, hypercholesterolemia, adiposity and dislipidemias, which constitute the metabolic syndrome ( ms ). Objective: to determine the frequency of depressive symptoms in patients with ms . Material and methods: an observational, descriptive, transverse study was carried out in 101 patients with ms (69 women and 32 men). The Beck inventory for depression was applied. Vasodilatation in the brachial artery and the thickness of the carotid intimae-media were evaluated by means of ultrasonographic measurement.
