| Abstract | Background: Client-centered care is significant in both occupational therapy and other professions within healthcare. Client-centered care can become complicated in errands within pediatric and adult habilitation services when the client is in the need of a secondary person to enable communication. Studies are scarce on how occupational therapists work client-centered in these errands. Aim: The study aim was to explore how occupational therapists within the habilitation services works client centered in cases where the client is in need of a secondary person. Method: A qualitative approach with semi-structured interviews, convenient sampling and qualitative content analysis was used. Five occupational therapists who works in adult habilitation services and four occupational therapists who works in pediatric habilitation services were interviewed about cases including a secondary person. Results: Three categories from the content analysis emerged; ways of working, ways to receive a client and external influencing factors. The result of the analysis showed that there are many ways to work client-centered. However, the participants agreed that the way a client is being met is very important. External influencing factors that showed where disagreements and time. Conclusion: This study shows several relevant working methods that give a good response. Good client-centered work should take time to enable the client´s goals and desires to be achieved despite the need for a secondary person. |
