| Abstract | Objective: To describe the epidemiological profile of adults admitted to a reference treatment center in burns. Method: Descriptive, cross-sectional study with quantitative approach. It was held in March 2016, at the Burning Treatment Center of Dr. José Frota Hospital, Fortaleza-CE. Results: Twenty male adults (55%), with a minimum wage income, and a low level of schooling, from the interior of the State 14 (70%) prevailed. Electrical shock was present in six (30%) accidents, which occurred in the work environment. The majority of the participants, 11 (55%), had burned body surface grater than 20% and in 16 (80%) individuals the lesion was of the second degree. The most affected area of body the was the trunk, totaling 18 (90%). Most of the individuals were unaware of the danger of the accident 14 (70%). Conclusion: Flammable products were the main cause of accidents at home, affecting mainly women 7 (35%) and electric shock in the workplace, with a higher prevalence of males. The participants had low socioeconomic and schooling levels and were classified as medium and large burned, with the trunk being the most affected body region. |
