| Abstract | t Thee radial distribution of the liquid velocities has been measure d for the air-water in bubblee columns of 0.174, 0.38 and 0.63 m. Additionally, measurement s with air viscous Telluss oil system were performed in the 0.38 m column. A more comprehensiv e set of experimenta ll work was performed to measur e centre-line liquid velocities in the same columns,, for a range of superficial velocities up to 0.35 m/s. The experimenta l results emphasis ee the significant influence of the scal e on the hydrodynamics of bubble column reactors,, especiall y for operation in the churn turbulent regime. Experimental results were comparedd with CFD simulations, performed in the same group in a parallel research , by van Batenn (2000). The good agreemen t between the simulations and the experiment s allow us to considerr CFD as a predictive and scal e up tool for bubble column reactors. |
