| Abstract | Based on works by researchers who show the difficulties that involve teaching and learning of differential and integral calculus, in particular the calculus I, this paper introduced some relationships between intuition and rigor and between image and concept definition manifested by students of calculus I in the study of limits and continuity. Starting with a brief historical background of the development of differential and integral calculus to approach of limit and continuity in some textbooks, we work with a sample of 56 students in courses of Degree in Mathematics and Bachelorship of Statistics in University of Ouro Preto (UFOP). Based upon the concepts of concept image and concept definition, presented some considerations about their relationships with, respectively, intuition and rigor respectively, in the considerations our collaborators in the research. |
