| Abstract | Previous studies have used temporal discrimination tasks with nonhuman organisms as a way of assessing working memory. The majority of findings have emerged from preparations where organisms must learn to distinguish between two durations, which do not necessarily fully represent the complexity of stimuli that occur in natural conditions. The purpose of this study was to determine if organisms were able to discriminate duration sequences that having the same duration could be equal or different in sound frequency. Eight rats were trained on a delayed symbolic matching to sample task, where the sample stimulus consisted of one of sixteen possible duration sequences. Each sequence could be short or long and was composed by two tone modalities (high and low frequency). Once the discrimination criterion was acquired, the testing phases began. In these phases retention intervals were included under two conditions: in-between the components of the sequence (Retention Interval Between Components); or at the end of the sequence (Retention Interval at the End of Sequences). The results show that subjects 1 La referencia de este artículo en la Web es: http://conductual.com/content/efectos-diferenciales-de-los-intervalos-deretenci%C3%B3n-en-una-tarea-de-discriminaci%C3%B3n-de 2 Este escrito fue financiado por el subsidio del Proyecto UNAM-PAPIITIN307913. 3 Correspondencia a Oscar Zamora Arévalo Ave. Universidad 3004, Col.
