| Abstract | Based on the recognition of teachers' beliefs in teaching/learning processes, this document explains a research work aimed at understanding personal beliefs about knowledge and knowledge in a group of DESIGN teachers linked to Colombian institutions where there are educational programs in this field. The first phase covers the conceptual and methodological approach developed to evaluate the degree of naivety or maturity in the beliefs of specific domain of the teachers. The second phase includes the design and development process of an visual artifact oriented to the visual exploration of the relations between the evaluated beliefs and a set of demographic variables in relation to the participating teachers, with the purpose of facilitating the understanding of the data obtained in the first phase. As contributions of the research work are presented: conceptual framework, development and validation of the Epistemic Beliefs Inventory Design (EBI-D), accompanied by the iterative cycles used to design the Information Display Artifact. In terms of findings, regarding knowledge a consensus was identified on the level of maturity in the beliefs of teachers, believing in DESIGN as an activity based on a structure of analytical, critical and synthetic thinking, above beliefs where it is associated with instrumental activities. With regard to knowing, there is a marked lack of consensus regarding the beliefs of teachers associated with the process of knowing, the foregoing invites to be questioned by the teaching / learning processes in the field, in particular by beliefs about historical evolution of teaching / learning in the design field. Finally, significant differences were identified in terms of beliefs about knowledge and knowledge in relation to gender, academic training and the stage of the program where teachers work. |
