| Abstract | The fast-growing foreign population in Madrid’s region: A typical example of contemporary international labor migration to Spain. Since the mid 1980’s, Spain’s role as a destination country for international economic migrants has steadily grown. Amongst the main causes of this societal transformation lies Spain’s uninterrupted growth, as well as its peculiar social permissiveness for irregular jobs and informal work environments. Madrid, the state capital and a very prosperous city, is located in central Spain. Most of this article deals with the remarkable international migration to Madrid that took place in the last two decades. |
